Well this is something new... (Well actually it's probably not new at all)...
Passed by a newsagent and was a bit bemused as to why Bruce Lee was on the latest Empire cover...
Turns out that the new Empire, featuring the 500 greatest movies of all time, has got 100 arty covers to choose from. Cool idea, altho some of the covers are better than others.
(The Carrie cover is amazing - Empire Strikes Back, Bladerunner, Gremlins and Matrix are gorgeous too. Heath Ledger has sold out, natch)
Although I'm sure they had that Catwoman cover as the actual cover way back when?
I'm actually trying to cut down on magazines at the moment - I usually get Empire, Q and Attitude - but i just never ever read them. They sit on my coffee table gathering dust. I probably should go on Spendaholics - I buy these things, and flick thru them when I get home, but don't really go any further. It's the initial 'thrill'.
And I went off Q when it became clear they hate my lovely, talented, beautiful wife Tori Amos.
I think I'll go for this issue though - and maybe Q if they have Kings of Leon in it, who I have grown to love.
But of course the problem is now - I want the Enter the dragon cover - and now having seen it once, I probably won't see it again!!!

Is this Empire promotion tied into this "Magazine Week" mentioned in the new Radio Times?
Did you know that in Japan they have magazines aimed specifically at commuters? I mean really aimed at them -- like fashion mags that give women tips on what to wear on the train.
Then again, I suppose that, even in the UK, there must be plenty of people who only read newspapers and magazines on their morning and/or evening commute...
I hate Empire almost as much as I hate Q (it doesn't surprise me that they don't like Tori - they don't like anything half-decent). Still, I am tempted by the Big Lebowski cover... if I can find it.
Empire used to be essential reading. It was so well written very funny. Definitely not been so good over the last few years.
Q's always left me cold, but i get it if Tori's in there (being slagged off)
Of course, this could be the downside of teh Empire covers - if you can't get the cover you want, you won't buy it.
Oh jeepers and that Top 500 is a travesty too. I can barely think about it without getting annoyed.

It's all so predictable, exactly the kind of nonsense you'd expect to be voted by a bunch of film bores. Rubbish.
Well you'll be relieved to know i got my bruce lee cover...
but it'll prob sit on my coffee table forever anyway like most of the mags i buy do these days...
