O Men 2.6

By god, I think I've done it. Finally seem to have almost finished O Men 2.6... It's only taken me 7 months ha ha!!
So I still need to do some checking and correcting, but the huuuge bulk of work is almost over.
I've already pencilled a quarter of 2.7 and also been working on some Spandex imagery, as you may have seen...
So I seem to be getting somewhere...

RECommendation (ha)

It's turning out to be a good year for movies, and I'm really excited about some stuff that's around/coming up: I'm a Cyborg, Death Note, Shutter, Ruins, and more...
Managed to see REC last night - which I've been really looking forward to - and it didn't disappoint!!!
If you haven't heard about it, it's basically a Spanish horror movie about a group of people trapped in a building with Zombies... It's one of those camcorder movies - Cloverfield, Blair Witch, etc, but that doesn't mean it's unoriginal.
It's just an absolutely cracking movie. The 'intro'/slow bits don't drag as much as the Cloverfield ones did, it's gorgeously stylish, extremely exciting and utterly terrifying - the whole audience (including me) was screaming!!! The lead lady was utterly charming - so, so cool - and I hope she breaks into Hollywood after this.
It's a movie that you don't really want to give too much away about - but I don't think it's too much to say that the final 15 minutes or so of the movie are utterly fucking terrifying.
Two related asides...
Hollywood have already quickly snuck in their remake - Quarantine - which will be released later this year. It kinda looks like a shot-for-shot remake, but the lead lady doesn't seem to have the same quirky personality, and please don't watch the trailer because it gives too much away.
And I don't know what Empire Mag is playing at, but they only gave it 3 out of 5, a lower score than they gave the laughable Diary of the Dead. Seems like they marked it down purely because it came out at the same time as Clover and Diary...
Anyway, I can't recommend this cute horrible film highly enough!

Secret Invasion (spoilers)

And so it begins...
Or apparently it began years and years ago, as Bendis would have us believe.
So the first Secret Invasion issue isn’t too bad. The art doesn’t quite work in places, and it takes a hell of a time to get going. Bendis’ dialogue isn’t quite as sparky as usual (but thank god there’s no thought bubbles - jeez that doesn’t work).
But of course what we want here are revelations. So it looks like Dum Dum is a Skrull, Henry Pym (since when... since forever??), and jarvis - or jarvis is some kinda sleeper agent.
But the big revelation is the 17 heroes who emerge from the ship. Personally, I’m not convinced. While it’d be great to have Mockingbird back and Jean Grey, plus Jewel, the thought that people like Ms Marvel, Cap, Spidey, Iron Man and Wolvy have been Skrulls all along is just... well it’s just too much.

Kickass

Check it out. Great comic. What if a kid decided to become a superhero in a real world. He’d get the shit kicked out of him, as we see here. I’m surprised John Romita Jr is doing this - i wonder if he’s shocked by the script, being one of the old guard.

TV: L Word, Who, Oz, etc...

Oh dear. Just finished watching The L Word season five. A spectacular fall from grace after an excellent season four. A ludicrous season where the unbelievably annoying Jenny has her book turned into a film, and she becomes the director (despite having no directorial experience). And then she gets betrayed by her little lesbian assistant Adele who then takes over the movie (despite having no directorial experience). There’s so much in this season about the movie, and yet it adds nothing to the plot at all.
The season actually only has a handful of really good moments, and yet again, Pam Grier completely wastes her time playing an abysmal character (in one hilarious plot twist, she decides to shoot the owners of a rival nightclub who have taken over her business - sooo ridiculous and she doesn’t go through with it). Max is nowhere to be seen, the prison scenes with Helena are ridiculous, Papi disappears without a mention, and Jodi takes a really stupid revenge on the ever-miserable Bette at the end, which is totally out of character...
Just watched the new Who. Now everyone knows I’m not a huge fan these days, but I quite liked it - it was fun, and Catherine Tate brings a fresh new perspective to the show (weird that she’s doing this show - it’s not as if she needs to do it...). Next week’s looks good - with Pompeii and Etna about to explode - that’s what Who is missing, I think, the imminent danger aspect.
Other current viewings include the hilarious Apprentice, the awe-inspiring Project Runway and Oz season four...
I’d watch I’d Do Anything but it’s utter shite...

Walking Dead (huge spoilers for issue 48)

As always, I’m not quite sure what to make of the current Walking Dead... Fair enough it’s shocking...but I can’t quite see the point. Is there supposed to be a point, or is it just a savage ongoing story. There’s quite a few deaths in issue 48, and for the main ones I just thought ‘well, I wouldn’t really have done that...’
Shame Rick is still around - I think he’s been in it long enough...

Spandex

I thought I’d do updates on Spandex, since that is kind of supposed to be the point of this blog.
So basically, one of my Spandex ladies is no longer in Spandex. I’ve decided Miss Fantastic would make a better villain. So I’m replacing her with a new character called Indigo - quite exciting to just start with a new character from scratch...
I’m also getting interviewed for a website about the project, and it’s quite interesting as it’s helping me figure it all out in my head.
In other news - O men 2.6 is almost done - I can see light at the end of the tunnel...
So just 2.7 to go after that before the break...
That’s all for now!

A crime against comics!!

Did anyone read the Authority Prime mini-series? Bloody hell - what a terrible comic! Tacky, pointless, monotonous, ugly - and can anyone explain to me how Swift got stabbed through the chest and died halfway through the last issue and then just turned up alive and well at the end of the issue?
Tsk!
