How would you react if you were offered £29,000? Nice, eh? Well one of my favourite Deal or no Deal contestants won that amount on Monday - but if she'd said 'no deal' she would have gone on to win £160,000 or even £250,000. There were tears (not mine, well almost). It's such a funny old show - how can 30 grand be seen as a negative - and yet somehow it did. And of course, horrible old Noel was rubbing it in, tsk. He really needs to watch himself on TV and think about what he's doing...

I don't understand that show. I just don't get it.
I didn't used to, then I started watching it... now I'm addicted. In fact, most days it's the only telly I watch. After a while, it becomes gripping... it's a metaphor for life. If you take the risk, chances are you crash and burn. If you play it safe, you get your nose rubbed in it by showing how things could so easily have gone much better. Cruel fate, mocking us.
I'd have been happy with £29k myself... but you could understand her tears too. It's never enough if you know you could have had more. We're all greedy at heart.
I'll stop now. It's getting me depressed...
kelvin, i used to hate the show, and i didn't understand it at all. stick with it...
Rol, DOND is very addictive indeed. i've been taping it for over a year now and watch it after work (i was standing up in a circle of people when i just made that DOND Anonymous confession). i have to say, the contestants don't seem as good as they were when i first started watching, but that was probably a novelty thing. every time i think i'm going off it, a really good game comes along, which restores my faith. it's been a good week this week - some of the better contestants.
the whole thing does raise questions. when it gets so depressing, is it suitable as a daytime show? and when 30 grand is seen as a disappointment, aren't channel 4 just pissing that money up the wall.
and noel...sort yourself out, mate...
I really don't think I can be brought to watching a Noel Edmonds game show, although there is a refreshing honesty about ours. The US version tries to be all sinister and thrilling with a bald-headed tough guy type presenting and a sort of gangster theme running through it. It's ridiculous, and Noel and his snazzy shirts seem much more honest.
Still, I think I'll wait for Numberwang.
and in the American version, don't they have all dolly-birds opening the boxes? i love the fact that the contestants are there every day in the Uk version, and you grow to know them over time (although it's so weird when a contestant is picked who you've never even noticed before)
I find the show to be really annoying but every now and then I'll watch it if only to laugh at a greedy idiot walk away with nothing.
As someone who has been on a few game shows before, I've had to use my brains to stand a chance of winning some cash, not rely on chance. I even had to suffer 3 hours of Anne Robinson to win £2,500.
and if you really think that on DOND, the contents of the boxes are a secret, think again. The banker certainly knows. ;-)
and from what I hear, Noel is a really nice guy
the banker knows? noooo! (Martin's illusions lie shattered on the floor)
Apparently, there used to be a gameshow on TV in the States that was built around pukka prizes and booby prizes scattered about in boxes in a supposedly random fashion. Only some bloke worked out that there was nothing random about it at all -- the game always played out in one of only five possible ways. He went on the show, won a bucketload of cash, and came away feeling very smug...only to subsequently be scammed out of every penny by a succession of 'friends' and relatives. Silly s*d :-)
a recent DOND contestant, 'doug', an old guy, won 75 grand - and has since had all his benefits and pension slashed now that he is 'rich'... Tsk.
